Cheesecake!

By : Ontario Kitchen | On : 2012-07-28 | Category : Yellow Plum, Cheesecake

This week, we go sweet and sour with yellow plums. These plums drop to the ground when ripe, so they’re picked early when they are tart. Very tart. Very very tart. The point is, before the ripen and begin to develop a pinkish hue and become sweet, they’re very sour. Which makes them a good replacement for lemon when you’re using Ontario produce! We’ve adapted a lemon curd cheesecake recipe for yellow plum, and think it’s a hit. The curd recipe makes plenty of extra, so be sure to be generous when dishing it out. This cheesecake is a bit more of a production than some of our previous recipes, but we think it’s well worth it.

Strawberry Rhubarb

By : Ontario Kitchen | On : 2012-05-20 | Category : Cake, Strawberry, Rhubarb

Last week, we got in on the first batches of Ontario asparagus we could lay our hands on. This week, we planned for rhubarb, and got strawberries in at the last minute! The day-neutral strawberries that are available now flower constantly, and aren't affected by the changes in day length like "regular" strawberries. This means they can come out earlier, and get to your plate faster. Rather than going with the standby pie, we did something a different to showcase each ingredient.

Check out the recipe here.

These little muffins have a moist texture and a delicious sweet and tart flavour, thanks to the streusel almond topping and the rhubarb. Make a batch, and serve them with coffee one morning, or if you're feeling a little more like sitting on the patio enjoying this warm weather...

Strawberry Basil Mojito

The classic mojito uses mint and lime while this, as the name gave away, uses basil and strawberry. Give it a try and find a new use not only for strawberries, but basil too!
